10 Things Mr Murdoch and Mr Zuckerberg Have in Common
1) A clear vision of reality.
2) No myths about a sacred marriage between advertising and content.
3) The ability to learn. If you can’t make money doing the same thing for 10 years (or 4 in the case of Mr. Z) the Franklins aren’t going to start flowing now.
4) Global empires (sort of).
5) An astute grasp of the needs of their users – content; whether its reading it or creating it.
6) An understanding that people will pay money for what they like, even if they say they won’t when asked in a focus group.
7) No issues with reducing their ad sales forces, especially when they can’t sell ads.
8) A faint whiff of desperation, or is that just their competitive juices flowing?
9) Neither will win People Magazines “Most Beautiful Person of the Year”.
10) Neither will die penniless.
