What Worked in 2009?
In no particular order:
- Hyundai put their money on the consumer with a groundbreaking offer to help them deal with uncertainty and buy a car. Jeff Bridges voice didn’t hurt the spot either.
- Ford proved that you could do really great, graphic advertising for a truck, the F150, and even sell products.
- Google showed us they might actually know how to market with Droid. Maybe they can teach Amazon how to make ads for the Kindle.
- Consumers are spending more dollars online than offline. But when will retailers get it?
- Sears had Christmas in July and reminded us that a great American retailer was alive and kicking.
- Walmart went to war with Amazon. It was about time somebody did, and hey, we cleaned out our Amazon Wish Lists for a third of the original price.
- Verizon brilliantly stole a great campaign line, but made it their own and proved their point of difference perfectly.
- Social Media may actually change the world with the help of organizations such as Malaria No More, The Rainforest Alliance, The Center Against Domestic Violence, the Be A Match Foundation and so many others.
- Twitter taught us the benefit of brevity, its like haiku with the @ sign thrown in. Maybe it isn’t the tool for building a brand, but it is certainly an interesting way for building brand loyalty.
- Email still works. Some brands still don’t know how to make it work, but that’s another list.
Happy Holidays
